But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace …
Recovery from substance use is not about establishing abstinence. True recovery begins when we discover peace through our discovery of purpose and meaning. From a Christian perspective, our peace is established through the sacrifice and freedom Christ gave through his life, his death, and his resurrection. Recovery provides each individual a new direction, a renewed sense of purpose, where we are able to establish a genuine sense of peace.
This peace, through our Savior – Jesus Christ, surpasses all understanding and helps guard our hearts and minds (see Philippians 4:7 ESV). This only comes through our intimate and personal relationship we cultivate with Christ. It is a lasting peace we may experience. Not the illusions of our own heart and desire for peace and happiness ongoing substance use may have promised us, and not able to deliver.
Each day, as an individual engages in their own journey through a real meaningful and purposeful recovery, they are able to claim inner peace. A peace that is our own spiritual birthright. It is one we come to participate in and enjoy daily.
A Daily Recovery Walk through Proverbs
~ Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV ~
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
