Being Grateful

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise, dwell on these things

~ Philippians 4:8, ESV ~

The Savior taught his disciples a fundamental truth when he responded to a question in John 10:10. Christ compared the difference between a thief and what He promised: The thief only comes to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Because of the Savior’s gift of an abundant life, even for those in recovery, God’s desire is for us to partake and experience the abundance and joy.

We celebrate the new life recovery provides us by reminding ourselves to be grateful for those things we have been blessed with. Those whom our Sovereign God brings into our lives, and we focus on praising Him.

Recovery involves many choices toward a healthy lifestyle. One of them requires we shift our focus from the hardships we are experiencing. Instead, we start looking at the blessings we are receiving, and experiencing, as we continue to grow and mature. We thank our Heavenly Father for those blessings we’ve received.
