Let’s Take the Time to Ask

And when they prevailed[over them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, for they cried out to God in the battle, and he granted their urgent plea because they trusted in him.

~ 1 Chronicles 5:20, ESV ~

Reason people struggle in their recovery is because they are faced with a spiritual battle. There are two fronts to this battle. The first is the internal spiritual battle between the soul and the dragon of substance use. The second is the external spiritual battle between unseen forces: For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (See Ephesians 6:12, ESV).

Sometimes, amidst the demands and frustrations of living in recovery every day, we forget to take the time to slow down and connect with God. We turn from praying and meditation and rely on our own resources. Instead of beseeching our Heavenly Father for courage and strength, we strive to cultivate through our own efforts. We turn ourselves away from spiritual guidance and become dependent upon our own limited wisdom and understanding.

Failure to take time to seek God results in our own unfortunate, and sometimes tragic, failings in our battles.

When we stand in need, let us seek God to sustain us. When our hearts are troubled and we feel downtrodden, lift our worries toward Him in sincere prayer and supplication. When we feel weary and too weak to continue, let us call upon Him for strength to persevere and endure.Through God, we gain His wisdom and His grace. All we are required to do is merely ask. Ask and trust in Him.
