Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.
For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
~ Romans 15:2-3, KJV ~
Christ taught that the second great commandment is like unto the first. Love your neighbor as yourself. What does it mean to love your neighbor as you love yourself? It simply means that we engage in service. We speak kindly toward our neighbor. We help out whenever we are able to. Just as we show concern for our own health and well-being; we ought to show concern for the health and well-being toward those within our community. Whether it is sharing an encouraging word, providing a helping hand, offering a heartfelt prayer, or showing gratitude and appreciation. Are some of the simple ways we show Christian love and charity toward others. After all, who will?
If we view our lives as being too busy to concern ourselves with the welfare and well-being of those around us, we miss out on an opportunity to be a light in their lives. Let us, therefore, take the time to understand the needs of our neighbor and offer up Christ-like compassion and grace. This is the commandment of our Father.
~ Today’s Prayer and Meditation ~
Heavenly Father, help me live out the example of what it means to love my neighbor. You place people in my life and I am grateful to love them as I love myself. I honor you in worship and praise as I come to know the needs of my neighbors. How I am able to be of service toward them. Pray for them. Mourn with them. And, rejoice with them. In Jesus Name, Amen.
