First Draft – Don’t Kiss Me Goodbye – Chapter Five

Trinity Blade sits nervously at the bar in Charlies Pub and Grill, nursing a double whiskey. The excitement of a football game surrounds her, but she feels anxious and on edge, scanning the crowd for familiar faces. She orders another drink, hoping to calm her nerves. Roman, an acquaintance from a recent ferry ride, joins her, and they exchange pleasantries. Trinity reveals she needs help, mentioning her mother asked her to find Copper Steele if she were in trouble.

Just then, Dennis, Trinity’s stepfather, enters the pub and confronts them. Tension escalates as he sizes up Copper and threatens him. The bartender intervenes, but Dennis refuses to back down. He grabs Copper, leading to a physical confrontation. Copper manages to pull a revolver, threatening Dennis. After a brutal fight, Copper gains the upper hand, delivering powerful kicks that incapacitate Dennis. Trinity and Copper escape the pub, the air outside heavy with rain.

They drive to Trinity’s condo, where she tends to Copper’s injuries. Inside, the atmosphere is warm with a sense of familiarity. Over coffee, they connect as Copper learns about Trinity’s family. She reveals Dennis is her stepfather, and this revelation deepens their bond. The scene sets a tone of urgency and shared history, hinting at the challenges they will face together.
